Carolan's Farewell to Music
In 1738, old and ill, Carolan returned to the home of his patron,
Mrs. McDermott-Roe. He composed this lament and died three days later.
Carolan's Concerto
Turlough O'Carolan was probably the best known of the Irish harper composers
of the 17th & 18th centuries. His music, influenced by the Italian
Baroque style, epitomizes the final flowering of the Irish harp
tradition. It lives today in the folk idiom, heard in many Irish
sessions as 'a Carolan tune'. Over 200 of his melodies have been
collected, although some have been erroneously ascribed to him.
